Dr. Allen Reavis Inducted as 149th President of the Kansas Dental Association

Apr 8, 2024

On the afternoon of Friday, April 17, 2020, the Kansas Dental Association (KDA) held its 149th – and surely its most unique – General Assembly of membership via Zoom webinar format. During the meeting, Dr. Allen Reavis was inducted as the 2020-2021 KDA President.

Dr. Reavis shared some profound thoughts with members during the virtual meeting. Speaking of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Reavis said, “It is not the changes that will define us; it is how we handle it, how we work together, and how we succeed in that effort. As your President, with the officers, KDA staff, and the support of the membership, I promise we will weather this storm and come out stronger. We must focus on our long-term goals while getting through this COVID-19 crisis.”

About Dr. Allen Reavis

A desire to help others improve their health, a goal to serve his community, and being self-sufficient led Dr. Allen Reavis to dentistry. He has been enjoying that mission for 36 years in private practice at Atchison Dental Associates in Atchison, KS, where he loves practicing with his associate dentists and the entire dental team caring for their patients.

When the opportunity came to practice and live in Atchison, it was an easy decision for Dr. Reavis. With family from Weston, Leavenworth, and Platte City, he was glad to find a practice near home.

Dr. Reavis said, “It has been a great place to live and work, and after so many years here, I consider this my hometown! I feel getting to know my patients and being involved with them in our community has created relationships that I will always treasure.”

Dr. Reavis was born in Kansas, spent his youth near Leavenworth, and is a graduate of Platte City High School in Missouri. In 1979, he graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO with a B.S. in Biology. Dr. Reavis has practiced dentistry in Atchison since graduating from UMKC School of Dentistry in 1984.

Dr. Reavis believes in being “the best you can be,” and that goes for his patients and dental team too. He has been a continuous student since graduation and has completed over 2,000+ hours of continuing education courses. His desire is to inspire the dental team to create a great experience, and for their patients to feel they are getting the best dental care, ever!

Dr. Reavis has been active in the Kansas Dental Association in some fashion for his entire career. He was an officer Northeast District Dental Society for years, including serving as its President several times. Politically active, Dr. Reavis was a representative to the American Dental Association Washington Leadership Conference several times and lobbied on behalf of Kansas dentists.

As a member of the Kansas Dental Board, Dr. Reavis helped with the scaling assistant and sedation regulation legislation. To help underserved dental patients, Dr. Reavis led the effort to add a dental clinic to the Atchison Community Health Clinic, including raising all the funds to complete it. It has been very successful and now provides dental care to the underserved citizens of northeast Kansas, four days a week.

In the spirit of caring and helping others, Allen has also been involved with numerous boards and commissions over the years, including the YMCA, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, City Commission, and many others. During this time, he has served in leadership roles with the ultimate goal to help create a better person or a better place to live and work. Dr. Reavis currently serves as Vice-Mayor of Atchison, having served five terms as Mayor.

Dr. Reavis’ professional recognitions include Fellow in the American College of Dentists, Fellow in the International College of Dentists, and Mastership in Academy of General Dentistry.

In his free time, Dr. Reavis enjoys many outdoor activities, including golf and shooting sports, as well as flying, traveling, and even politics. He and his wife, Sara, have two children, Ben and Jenny.
