From the Office Dec. 2024

Dec 13, 2024

As we approach the end of 2024 the KDA is busy closing out this past year’s business and looking to an exciting 2025! First up is the Kansas Legislative Session which convenes on Monday, January 13! The KDA Board of Trustees has approved a robust legislative agenda which will guide the KDA through legislative session. The is pursuing initiatives with regard to dental insurance reform and the dental practice act. The KDA will also be working to improve access to care through increased KanCare reimbursement rates and monitoring possible anti-fluoride legislation, among others. You can see the KDA’s Legislative Priorities in the related article.

The KDA is excited this year to have newly elected Rep.-elect Dr. Allen Reavis as a member of the House of Representatives!  Allen is a past President of the KDA and will be representing Atchison and Doniphan Counties in extreme Northeast Kansas. Allen will provide valuable insight as a member of the House Committee on Health and Human Services and the House Committee on Social Services Budget.

Be sure to mark Thurs., Feb 6 on your schedule and plan to attend KDA’s Dental Day 2025! Dental Day is a great opportunity to engage in the Legislative process, learn about the issues the KDA is supporting on behalf of dentists and participate in positive change! We hope to see you at Dental Day and bring a friend!

We’ll need dentists to rally and engage during the Legislative Session so please be sure your KDA emails addresses are active and not blocked for communication and let us know your cell phone numbers to receive Legislative Action Alerts! Another way to keep KDA members informed during the Session will be through an All Member Townhall Zoom (date TBD) so be sure to look for that as well.

As we move into the Spring, the KDA General Assembly and other activities in coordination with UMKC’s Midwest Dental Conference will be held on April 3 and 4. Plan attend the KDA’s General Membership Assembly and participate in KDA governance activities. This year we’ll be voting on bylaw changes to allow the KDA to conduct an important membership pilot in 2026, along with electing officers, selecting our Children’s Dental Health Month classroom projects winner and recognizing our Dentist of the Year and other awardees!

As it is every year, it is hard to believe we have reached the end of another year! I hope 2024 brought you prosperity and happiness, and the hopes of even more in 2025! The KDA Leadership and Staff look forward to serving you this coming year!  Happy New YEAR!
